Hi folks,

Just registered here, and this is my first post.

I'm looking for some good versions of Ship of Fools. It may be because I heard the studio version first, but I can't find a live version I've enjoyed as much as the studio version.

But you folks are the experts, and I'm sure you'll know 20 or 30 versions that are better than the studio track.

My favorite is 1980-11-30. Very emotional. The solo and last verse give me goosebumps every time. This show also has my favorite Wheel.

Check 10/28/79 Aud is pretty good - SBD cleaner and better but not downloadable.

Surely this is one of the songs I prefer the 70's versions of but this http://www.archive.org/details/gd1986-12-30.sbd.miller.77446.flac16 is one of the Brent era renditions I really like also just to add variety.

Yea I think this song had a decent revival in post coma 86-88 but in my opinion from the limits of what I've heard never achieved the soul it had in the early versions. Love to be proved wrong of course.

For me it's the encore played @ Boston 28/6/74,it's just slow and bluesy and Keith's support playing is fab.

I've had a hard time finding a good live version of that number myself. They didn't perform it often enough...

Here's one which may not be 'superior', but it is fun and goofy, and I like it...

For a latter day version try 8-17-1989.

I've always liked this one,

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1974-06-23.aud.moore.berger.84615.flac16

There's a nice little jam preceding it, as they open the set.

While your there, stick around for the Dark Star>Spanish Jam!

I'll second this one. The preceeding jam sets the mood perfectly.

Hate to repeat a suggestion, but Dead Surfer is right on. I've never heard a version that equals this one:

http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-05-09.sbd.connor.8304.sbeok.shnf

Best in Garcia's vocal rendition, heartfelt solos, and overall perfectness.
